A Glasgow vending firm is celebrating after winning an award for outstanding achievements. Abercromby Vending, based in Dalmarnock, provides companies with fresh, homemade food.
It was Scotland’s first fresh food vending company and in the last few years has set up more than 200 machines in police stations, hospitals and private companies.
It is on target to produce profits this year of more than £700,000.
The firm was set up by brother and sister Tracey Graham, 45, and Thomas Smith, 40, from Dennistoun, who were determined to keep the business in the East End.
Now their efforts have been recognised by the International Organisation for Standardisation, which decided the business demonstrated the “highest level of quality management, organisational skills, identification and traceability of all their produce and products”.
The firm, in Abercromby Street, has been given ISO accreditation. Jonathan Hilder, chairman of the Automatic Vending Association. who presented the award, said: “We have our own quality system all our members must have, but Abercromby Vending has gone further and has been awarded a higher level in recognition for its standards.
“Through hard work and determination it is a business that is going from strength to strength.”
Ms Graham is proud the firm is the only in Scotland to receive the award. She said: “It feels so fantastic.”
Mr Smith said: “We are thrilled to receive this award. We have all worked hard over the last three years to make the firm a success and it is great to be recognised by the ISO.
“People are more conscious of what they eat now and we want to respect that by producing quality snacks to fill their appetites while at work.”
Abercromby Vending has been working hard to secure exclusive rights to be the only distributor of 99% fat-free coffee machines in west Scotland. The company already supplies them to the NHS and now has contracts to distribute them all over Greater Glasgow.
Ms Graham added: “We are doing things no one else can and have a fantastic future.”
